The Productivity Sweet Spot~ Episode 14
How to Be More Confident at Work (Wardrobe Strategies That Boost Focus & Success)

What if your wardrobe could do more than dress you—it could support your focus, confidence, and self-leadership?
In this inspiring episode, we explore the unexpected but powerful connection between clothing and confidence, and how the way we dress can shape how we show up in our work and life. My guest, personal stylist Caitlyn Tailor, shares practical wardrobe strategies rooted in dopamine dressing, self-compassion, and intentionality—tools that help you feel empowered without chasing perfection.
Together, we unpack how aligning your style with your values isn’t superficial—it’s a reflection of your ability to lead with authenticity and live life on your terms. We also talk about why getting dressed with intention can sharpen mindfulness and focus, boost productivity, and shift how you carry yourself in professional spaces.
If you’ve ever struggled with how to be more confident at work, felt disconnected from your body, or found yourself stuck in the comparison trap, this conversation will help you reconnect with your inner power—starting with your closet.
- The Confidence Ripple Effect: Wearing outfits that make you feel good can spark confidence and shift your mindset.

“Some days we get it right. Some days, not so much. And that’s okay—you know, we just get up and do it again. And we’re all doing our best.”
“We need to change that mental chatter and look in the mirror and say, ‘Oh yeah, that’s a good bit, I like that bit.'”
“Body confidence is an inside job. It comes from you. Nobody else’s opinion matters more than your own.”
“Reward your body and value it for what it’s done—what our bodies have done is incredible.”
“It’s about dressing to highlight your good bits, rather than dressing to hide the bits you’re not so keen on.”

Peaceful Productivity is so much more than time management and productivity hacks. Self-doubt and an overactive inner critic often keep us stuck in unproductive cycles, whether it’s overthinking decisions, procrastinating, or feeling “not good enough” to pursue big goals.
Interestingly, the clothes we wear can play a pivotal role in silencing those voices. By intentionally choosing outfits that make us feel powerful and at ease, we can create a positive ripple effect: more confidence, less self-doubt, and greater focus on what truly matters.
Style anf fashion seem worlds apart from productivity, but they are intricately linked through the way we perceive ourselves. How we dress isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a daily act of self-expression that can shift our mindset and boost confidence.

Welcome to the Peaceful Productivity Pod. I’m your host, Ann Rajoo, and together we redefine productivity and find your sweet spot where performance meets happiness.
I’m asuming you had the experience of putting on an outfit we absolutely love—the one that makes us feel unstoppable, like our best, most authentic selves. Suddenly, we stand a little taller, feel more confident, even more decisive.
It’s amazing how the right outfit can spark a positive ripple effect through our day.
Today’s guest Caitlin Tailor, Auckland-based personal stylist helping women to elevate their everyday style.Caitlyn’s philosophy of celebrating our bodies as they are teaches us how to tackle perfectionism and embrace imperfection—not just in style but in life and work. Productivity thrives when we release self-judgment and so the surprising connection between what we wear and productivity begins with redefining how we see ourselves.
I’m a mum of two boys and I love fashion. But with those guys and the fact that I work from home, I have adopted a comfy uniform of shorts or yoga pants and a t-shirt. But when I have an important Zoom call, I dress up a little. I might or might not wear make up and yes, sometimes it’s Business on Top, Pajamas on the Bottom. But I definitely recognise a shift in demenour and confidence when I change what I wear.
Also, I have a ritual at the end of my working day. I change my clothes. Even if it’s from one shorts and t-shirt to another. But I change my clothes to signal my brain to switch from entrepreneur mode to mommy mode and to leave work behind to be fully present with my boys.
Or I recently worked with Lara, who did a Peaceful Productivity Audit with me. She was struggling to adopt CEO habits and mindsets, so we experimented with having her dress more formally on the days she dedicated to CEO work. By simply shifting ones attire, we can boost in our physical confidence and feel more “in charge” and grounded – especially when working on tasks that we might not feel inherently confident about. This physical confidence radiates outward, our posture improves, we feel more decisive – all things that make it easier to tackle high-level decisions and tasks.
Caitly Tailor and are exploring practical tips on “dopamine dressing” and how choosing colors and styles that make you feel good can actually boost your mood and confidence and other great tips. Let’d hear it from Caitlin.
CAITLIN TAYLOR
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I kind of go, wait, I’m the mom. Are you sure? Like, sometimes I feel like, like, is there a responsible adult around you somewhere? It’s still blows my mind that I’m the mom.
there’s a cartoon that we watch. It’s an Australian cartoon. I’m an Australian, even I live in New Zealand. It’s an Australian cartoon called Louis. And it is, it’s, it’s the most incredible cartoon. It’s basically a family of dogs, a family of wood healers. It’s a very Aussie family, and that there’s two, there’s two parents and two kids, and they’re like, they’re like, humans, like the cartoon and their dogs. And they live in my hometown. They live in Brisbane, and so a lot of the architecture is like a street that I grew up on, and there’s a school that it’s so cool. But one of the episodes is called mum school, and one of the little girls is playing mum, and she asks her actual mum to, like, grade her and how, as a little mom to these balloons, and at the end, one of the balloons flies away and says to Mom, did I fail mum’s school? And the mum really goes, yeah, sometimes we all fail mum’s school money, and we just get up and we just do it again the next day. And I was, I watched it for the 75th 1,000th time with my with my trip we the other day, and I was like, that’s just so true. Like, some days we get it right. Some days not so much. And that’s okay, you know, we just get up and do it again. And we’re all doing
our best Absolutely.
I think that we have this thing where we think we have to choose between style and comfort. And I’m here tell you that you don’t you can actually be both. You can actually stylist and you can be comfortable. And what that’s about is choosing the right clothes, choosing the fits of clothes, using the right fabrics that might feel you know, that might feel good, but they still look good. So I’m just wearing this really loose kind of pink little top with denim shorts. I had on the jeans today, but it’s cotton, but it’s just something a little bit more elevated. So it’s not just a t shirt. So my little tagline with my clients is, let me help you elevate your everyday style. So it’s choosing little things that you can just do a little bit differently. So rather than wearing, we call them jandals, but they call them flip flops or thongs, or, you know, like rubber sandals. And so instead of wearing those, like, really casual shoes, like, choose a little metallic sandal or something that’s a little bit more elevated. So rather than wearing a t shirt, choose a nice little blouse, and it can still be really affordable. I think this one was, you know, under $80 but it’s something that I ought I feel good in. So not having to feel like you have to choose between comfort and style is really important. It’s about looking to fabrics that have flexibility in fit, so things that are comfortable to get down on the ground, things that are stretchy, things that are loose, those kinds of things.
I think it’s just like you nailed it. Like clothes can make you happy. You have fun with it. There’s a there’s anecdotal evidence that there’s a thing called dopamine dressing. And dopamine dressing is about wearing bright color to this emerge, so it actually affects the chemicals in array, and that dopamine, by the happy ball, works. So it’s those kind of kicks that often need, and it’s one of those things that we by nature. Often, if we’re feeling a bit blah, we tend to hide in our clothing. So we wear black, we wear comfy clothes, we wear loose clothes. But studies have shown actually, you need to do the opposite. You need to wear clothes that you love. You need to wear sequence. You need to wear color. You need to wear something that makes you happier. And it’s kind of almost that fake it until you make it so you put your clothes on to dictate the mood you want to have.
why has this become the norm? Why is it norm that we instantly talk about all the negative parts of our bodies? We need to change the perspective. We need to change that mental chatter and that mental talk that we kind of look in the mirror and we go, ew, ew, ew, rather than going, oh yeah, that’s a good bit, oh, that’s a nice bit. I like that bit, you know, like you do that to your girlfriends, like you want to take up and you go, oh yeah, that’s great today, you know. So there’s this that kind of side effect change that mental talk, and it’s an inside job. Yeah, so body confidence is an inside job. It comes from you. Nobody. Nobody else has the right to comment on your body, nobody else has the right to offer an opinion, and nobody else’s opinion matters more than
So I think that it’s about getting to a point where you’re like, This is my body, because it is what it is, and I’m okay with it. Sure there’s bits I like better than others, and that’s where with my clients again, why I ask people, What are the three parts of your body that you’re the most confident about? Is because we then dress to high highlight those parts. So rather than dressing to hide the hearts we don’t like it’s a really subtle shift, but it makes such a difference. So you can actually Dress Like for instance, my favorite parts are my waist, my legs and my ear. So you will very rarely see me and like you follow me on Instagram, you probably can. I know on one hand the amount of times you probably see me with my hair up. I never wear my hair up. My hair is always down because that I feel feminine. I feel like I’ll head so my hair gives me balance, like, if my big hair kind of balances out, you know, my boobs and my curves, I like my waist, so I try to wear things when I fitted or high waisted. And I like my legs. I don’t know if she’s wearing, like, like shorts dresses and short steps and that kind of thing. So for me, it’s about dressing to draw attention to those parts, rather than always distresses and to hide my tummy or whatever, you know, so I think it’s really just making that subtle shift that we’re dressing to highlight our good bits, rather than dressing to hide the bits that we’re not so keen on. But like you said, it’s a it’s a daily exercise, like it’s not something that you’re going to do overnight, but I think you can make a conscious effort yourself by kind of to yourself, be kinder to your body, reward it and value it for what it’s done. You know, for a lot of us, I mean, it’s grown humans. A lot of us is fed a human like It blows my mind that babies can live exclusively on stuff that I make for them from my body for six months like that. You know, we’re incredible. We’re bloody incredible. And I think it’s really important to remind ourselves of that, you know, that what our bodies have done? Yeah, it’s pretty cool, you know.

I absolutely loved this heartwarming and empowering conversation with style coach Caitlyn Tailor.
Just like Caitlyn suggests embracing your body by focusing on what you love about it rather than hiding the parts you don’t, Peaceful Productivity emphasizes focusing on your strengths to create a more effective and efficient workflow. When you center your efforts on the tasks and skills that align with your natural abilities, you’re more likely to experience a state of flow—a zone where work feels effortless and deeply fulfilling (some call it Zone of Genius).
Instead of scattering your energy by taking on every task just because you can or falling into the comparison trap, focus on the areas where you excel. This allows you to make a meaningful impact while conserving energy and reducing overwhelm. By doubling down on your strengths, you not only increase your efficiency but also cultivate confidence and momentum, making it easier to tackle challenges and achieve your goals with clarity and focus.
Your strengths are your superpower—use them intentionally to build a workflow that feels both productive and joyful.
A lot of the Peaceful Productivity concept actually stems from my own struggles. When I decided to transition from being a solo Virtual Assistant to building an agency, I had to switch sides—from the service provider and executor to the one who delegates. This wasn’t always easy. Like many of our VA clients, I struggled with letting go of control, trusting others to maintain my standards, and overcoming the belief that “it’s faster if I just do it myself.” I also faced mindset hurdles, such as feeling guilty for delegating or worrying that asking for help made me less capable.
Over time, I realized that focusing on my strengths, rather than trying to do everything, allowed me to create more impactful results for my clients and a more sustainable business for myself. Today, while I still engage in some VA work, I only do the tasks I love and excel at—the ones that energize me and align with my skills. The rest, I confidently entrust to my talented team. This shift not only improved our overall efficiency but also gave me the freedom to focus on growing the business and creating resources like Peaceful Productivity to help others thrive.

In our upcoming episode, Skye Barbour dives deep into one of the toughest challenges faced by entrepreneurs: stepping away from the front line of the business during critical moments, like maternity leave. Many business owners struggle to delegate, fearing their business won’t run smoothly without them. Skye shares powerful insights on how to break free from the overwhelming belief that “I’m the only one who can do it right.”
She tackles the common misconceptions that keep entrepreneurs stuck in the “doer” phase—like the fear that hiring help will only create more work, or that systems and processes are too complex to implement. Skye helps us reframe these thoughts, offering practical strategies for building a sustainable business where delegation and systems empower rather than hinder growth.
