Staying Focused on Major Goals for Maximum Productivity while Creating Lasting Joy

Small Project Creep

Yes, I’m a productivity mentor. And I’m human! So I as well find my swamped with projects and to-does.

Recently I sensed how anxiety was rising with the school holidays approaching for us in August.

Earlied in July we had a week mid-term break and I had managed to keep my schedule relatively spacious. We cherished the days together and I knew I wanted more of this when August roles around.

During a call with my mastermind group, I laid out my different priorities and thoughts. My coach pointed out that I was experiencing “small project creep”—spending time on small projects because they seem easier and faster to accomplish, yet they were taking away focus from what really matters.

At least two things on my list were small projects that were derailing me from my bigger goals.

So check in, if you also may be experiencing “small project creep”.

And if yes, take some intentional time to refocus and clarify what your major projects are and whey they are important.

By keeping your focus on the larger, more impactful projects, you’ll not only make significant progress but also maintain a sense of accomplishment and peace.

How to Make Joy Last

Satisfaction is often fleeting. We seek more, more, and more.

And the good feelings quickly fade. So we seek again.

This is due to a psychological phenomenon known as the “hedonic treadmill”. This means that we quickly return to a baseline level of happiness after achieving something that initially brought us joy.

To create a more lasting sense of satisfaction, share your joyful experiences with those you love. For example, I recently had coffee and cake with my friend Dolores, who visited from Italy. I love cake, but it always tastes better when enjoyed in good company.
