Creativity isn’t just a skill—it’s a lifestyle, an approach to work, and an essential part of being productive.

How Being Creative Helps Me Get Things Done: Tips from a Coffee Artist

The Importance of Creativity in Productivity

Creativity and productivity are often seen as two separate entities, but they are intricately connected.

Creativity fuels productivity by providing fresh ideas and solutions, making tasks more engaging and enjoyable.

When we approach our work creatively, we’re not just ticking off tasks;

we’re adding value and meaning to what we do.

My Daily Routine: A Balance of Creativity and Productivity

Starting the Day with Yoga and Coffee

Every morning, I start my day with 20-30 minutes of yoga. This practice not only helps me stay physically fit but also clears my mind and prepares me for a productive day.

Practices like meditation or yoga can help clear your mind and enhance your focus. This mental clarity can lead to more creative and productive work. I find that starting my day with yoga helps me stay centered and ready to tackle the day’s challenges.

After yoga, I enjoy a cup of coffee while brainstorming and creating new content.

This quiet time is when my most creative ideas flow, setting a positive tone for the day.

Coffee isn’t just a beloved morning ritual and my art medium; it’s also backed by science as a productivity booster. Here are a few reasons why coffee can help you stay productive

The caffeine in coffee acts as a central nervous system stimulant. It blocks a neurotransmitter that makes you feel tired, leading to improved attention and cognitive function.

Caffeine increases adrenaline levels, which can improve physical performance.

Coffee can stimulate the production of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, which can enhance your mood and make you feel happier, a lower risk of depression.

Coffee is a significant source of antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body.

So, not only does coffee help you stay awake and focused, but it also has several health benefits that contribute to overall well-being.

For me, coffee is my creative fuel. It’s my way of waking up my mind and preparing for a productive day.

Of course, sometimes I get so concentrated in my work that I accidentally dip my brush into the wrong coffee cup 🙂

Whenever I feel overwhelmed by too many tasks or the fear of not being enough, I leave everything aside and start a new coffee painting.

It’s like escaping into a world of coffee and imagination where I have control over my brush and my thoughts.

This break fills me with motivation, and I return to my tasks with renewed enthusiasm and creativity.

Finding Inspiration in Nature

Working in a sunroom studio surrounded by nature is a blessing. I find endless inspiration just by looking outside.

The vibrant colors, the changing seasons, and the serenity of nature infuse my work with creativity.

Long walks with my dogs and husband further spark new ideas, whether for a new piece of art or a fresh approach to a course I’m developing.

Fun Ways to Add Creativity to Your Day

Start Your Day with a Creative Ritual

Begin your day with an activity that stimulates your creativity, like journaling, sketching, or a mindful walk.

This can set a positive tone for the rest of the day. For me, it’s that morning yoga and cup of coffee while I brainstorm new ideas.

Design Your Workspace

Create a workspace that inspires you. Add elements that boost your mood and creativity, such as art, plants, or your favorite colors.

My sunroom studio, which is filled with natural light and surrounded by nature, is my creative haven.

I added my favorite colorful mushroom art, a vision board filled with inspiration, lots of plants, my art show awards, and, of course, art materials.

A clutter-free, organized space can also help clear my mind and boost my creativity.

Keep an Idea Journal

I keep my inspirational ideas on a special page on my phone.

If I get an idea just before I fall asleep, I write it down right away so I won’t forget. The same goes when I’m listening to podcasts. I often listen to podcasts while doing chores like dishes or laundry, and I jot down any ideas that come to me.

Celebrate Small Wins

Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. This positive reinforcement can keep you motivated and encourage a creative mindset. I love to reward myself with a little treat or a relaxing activity after completing a task. I take my Saturdays off unless I have a big art show, and dance a little happy dance with every art order I get 🙂

Take Creative Breaks

Regular breaks to engage in creative activities can refresh your mind and improve focus.

I often take short breaks to doodle or step outside for a quick coffee break in my backyard.

These breaks help me return to my work with a fresh perspective.

Being creative every day makes you get more things done and have more fun doing it! As a coffee artist, being creative has made my work and life amazing.
